STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING
ON LAKE ARENAL
Explore Lake Arenal's pristine waters with our stand up paddle boarding adventure. Lake Arenal is an artificial lake and currently the largest lake in the country. It was enlarged to its present size in 1979, when the Costa Rican government built a hydroelectric project to help provide electricity to the country. Even though it is man-made, it is beautiful, and is home to plentiful wildlife. Upon arrival at the lake, you will receive your board, and instructions from the guide. The waters of the lake are calm enough that you will surely find success. Your guide will help you spot some birds common to this popular birding area, including hummingbirds, woodpeckers, kingfishers, and toucans. There two predominant species of fish in Lake Arenal, the machaca fish and bass. You may spot them as explore the coves along the water’s edge. You will also be treated to stunning views of Arenal volcano from your vantage point on the lake. Upon your return to shore, you will visit the Pedal & Paddle Adventure Store in El Fosforo. Exchange your attire for dry clothing and indulge in a revitalizing snack, before being delivered back to your lodgings.
